Hydroxyethyl methylcellulose (HEMC) is widely used in water-based latex coatings, construction and building materials, printing inks, oil drilling, etc. It plays a role in thickening and retaining water, improving construction properties, and is used in dry and wet mortar series products.

Hydroxyethyl methylcellulose is widely used as an excipient for pharmaceutical preparations, including oral tablets, suspensions, and topical preparations.

Functions and Applications

1 Pharmaceuticals As a hydrophilic gel skeleton material, pore-forming agent, and coating agent for the preparation of sustained-release preparations. It can also be used as a thickener, suspension, dispersion, bonding, emulsification, film-forming, and water-retaining agent for preparations.

2. Food processing can also be used as bonding, emulsification, film-forming, thickener, suspension, dispersion, and water-retaining agent.

3. Daily chemical industry As an additive for toothpaste, cosmetics, detergents, etc.

4. Used as a gelling agent and water-retaining agent for cement, gypsum, and lime, it is an excellent admixture for powder building materials.

Its properties are similar to those of methyl cellulose, but due to the presence of hydroxyethyl, hydroxyethyl methylcellulose is more soluble in water, the solution is more compatible with salt, and has a higher coagulation temperature.
